I think the area of focus for us is taking a local approach. We have just set up a large R & D centre in Bangalore because we recognise that Indian environment is very different. So it’s not enough for an MNC to just come from overseas and try to cater to the needs of this market. We are really going to drive our strategies built on finding differentiated, unique solutions that are appropriate for the Indian environment rather than just impose a global solution. We are also setting up a big factory in Pune to offer solutions made locally in India besides the R & D set up which will do product development. So I hope to continue to be totally engaged with the Clean India Show team that is doing really a good job. I am really impressed with the quality of the participants and the scale. Not only is the scale expanding but the quality also seems to be improving. The awareness is picking up in India about the need for professional cleaning solutions. I am very optimistic about the future of this industry in India. 3M expects to be very closely engaged and involved with the industry. 3M’s portfolio is vast; we play in multiple areas. We are into anti-spill solutions, floor cleaning solutions and institutional cleaning solutions for institution applications. We also have a vast portfolio for matting solutions and fire solutions.

Clean India Show has been able to showcase new and relevant products and technologies which have been instrumental in educating people about cleanliness and hygiene. The new equipment and technologies can be a boon for municipalities and industries. We have found road sweepers as an effective solution for road sweeping at the show. City Municipal Council of Shimoga collects 160 tonnes of waste daily and has given the contract to Ramky Enviro Technologies for waste segregation. While door to door collection is being followed in some of the areas, the council plans to intensify collection and segregation in association with NGOs.

The company is into supplying municipal cleaning equipment for corporate and municipalities. We want to promote garbage compactors, road sweeping machines, sewer cleaning machines, fogging machines and e-toilet for public utility purposes through this show we are getting good response.
